The attractive programme of the Helsinki Chemicals Forum 2024 conference is published and the event is open for registration

The five hot topics for debate in the April 2024 Helsinki Chemicals Forum (HCF) conference proposed by its international Programme Committee have been validated by the Advisory Board representing the many partner organisations of the event. The registration and detailed programme are now available on HCF website, offering an insightful overview of the forum's scheduled sessions and keynote speeches.

The 14th Helsinki Chemicals Forum will be held in Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre on 10-11 April simultaneously with the unique ChemBio Finland, the exhibition and seminars for the chemistry and biotechnology professionals in the Nordic Countries and Baltic regions, as well as Pulp & Beyond, the new leading international event bringing together the latest forest-based bioeconomy innovations, products, services, and technologies.

The topics and moderators of the five debate panels of HCF 2024 are:

  • How does the new Global Framework on Chemicals influence the global supply chains to manage chemicals safer during the whole product lifecycle? - hosted by Jacqueline Alvarez, Chief of Chemicals Division, UNEP
  • How can substitution planning help to create regulatory certainty, promote investments in safer alternatives and speed up the substitution of the most harmful chemicals? - moderated by Otto Linher, senior expert, DG Growth, European Commission
  • Learnings from changes to the chemicals legislation elsewhere (US, Canada, Australia, Japan), discussion led by Peter Van de Zandt, Director Risk Management, European Chemicals Agency - ECHA
  • Increasing the use of economic instruments for chemicals management, hosted by Eeva Lainala, Principal Administrator, chemical safety and biosafety, OECD
  • Are Transition Pathways for Sustainability demonstrating how industrial sectors can achieve both the EU's chemicals and industrial strategies? - chaired by Leigh Stringer, Managing Editor Europe, Chemical Watch.

These five topics were chosen because of their relevance for the current and future chemicals regulatory systems in the EU and their attractiveness for other countries having a regulatory system in place or in the making. Apart from the moderators, the five panels will each have four expert speakers that represent the different stakeholders involved in chemicals regulation. Most speakers are from the EU but there will also be a significant presence from third countries. This conference should be attractive to all experts from governments, business and public society engaged in the design or implementation of chemicals legislation, who enjoy high-level networking.

The registration portal of HCF 2024 is now open for live and online participants and the new early bird rebate will be available up to 31 January.

The Helsinki Chemicals Forum is organised by the non-profit Chemicals Forum Association in co-operation with a high number of Finnish and international partners. The event will be held as a hybrid event on 10 and 11 April 2024. The organisation is also open to sponsors and exhibitors. To learn more, go to http://www.helsinkicf.eu
