The Habitare 2024 new theme area Neighbours to bring together different generations and lifestyles
In the autumn of 2024, Habitare will feature a new Habitare Neighbours theme area. Designed and curated by Ulla Koskinen and Anna Pirkola, the Neighbours area will include an exhibition and a residential block, which presents exciting companies in the industry. The area provides an opportunity to explore the diversity of homes and different ways of everyday living. Habitare, the leading furniture, design and interior decoration event in Finland, will be held at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre from 11 to 15 September 2024.
Living in the same yard, in homes of varying sizes, brings together different generations and residents in different life situations. The set of featured homes in the new Habitare Neighbours area provides an opportunity to explore the diversity of homes and different ways of everyday living.
“Habitare Neighbours outlines the home as a safe base that feels your own, enabling smooth and pleasant everyday living. It outlines the home as a framework for people’s lives and the neighbourhood’s common area as something that nicely complements and supports everyday life and provides security”, say Ulla Koskinen and Anna Pirkola, who are in charge of designing and curating the Habitare Neighbours area.
The Neighbours theme exhibition covers today's design and materials, as well as various topics related to homes, interior decoration, and construction. The exhibition provides an opportunity to discuss how the age of residents and their life situations are reflected in homes, and whether the various layers of homes are related to age or something else. It also enables us to discuss ownership: what needs to be privately owned and what can be shared.
The partners of Habitare Neighbours present themselves at their own stands in the residential block. The area features a common yard, at the other end of which you can find the common spaces for the residents. The yard area between the buildings is complemented by a large table that people can gather around for discussions and exchanges, workshops, and encounters. The yard area also serves as one of the Habitare fair’s mini arenas.
