East Lapland by Bike: The Best of Cycling in One Place

Nature tourism in East Lapland is gaining a new digital showcase as the region’s cycling and paddling routes are launched on a shared website. The themed page for cycle tourism will be marketed under the concept East Lapland by Bike.

The website aims to make it easier for travellers to discover the area’s diverse outdoor opportunities and tourism services. In addition to route descriptions, the site presents East Lapland as a travel destination, with a particular focus on independent international travellers.

– Although East Lapland has some well-known attractions, the region’s overall visibility still needs to be strengthened, reminds Sanna Kyllönen, Project Manager of the SUB project.

The route information has been developed within the Last Arctic Frontier (LAF) project. Alongside detailed route presentations and activity-specific information, the site offers a wide range of photos and videos that encourage visitors to explore the region.

The website, maintained by the East Lapland Joint Municipal Authority, also serves local residents. Additional outdoor-related themes—such as hiking or open-water swimming—may be added later. Before the official launch, tourism stakeholders will be consulted.

The website will be officially unveiled at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair in Helsinki in January 2026. It is being designed as a collaborative project between the Local federation of East Lapland’s international cycling tourism project (SUB) and the cycling and paddling route development project (LAF). The technical implementation is provided by the advertising agency Seven-1.
