Bringing Hurstinapu Christmas Celebration to Life

Published

The magic of Christmas is created through doing things together. It is through collaboration that Hurstinapu Christmas Celebration also comes to life at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre.

At Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, a warm-hearted Christmas celebration will once again bring together those who are lonely or in need. Hurstinapu traditional Christmas Celebration is made possible through the collaboration of numerous donors, hundreds of volunteers, and the Centre’s extensive partner network.

Preparations begin weeks before Christmas Eve. The Hurstinapu organisation plans the program, recruits volunteers, and reaches out to donors – as Hurstinapu relies entirely on donations. Meanwhile, Helsinki Expo and Convention Coentre Centre plans the event logistics: a warm and safe venue is designed and equipped for 2,000 guests, including areas for dining, entertainment, performers, and the main kitchen. Permits are obtained, signage is created, and the large team required for the event – from custodians and electricians to first aid staff – is assembled.

On the day before Christmas Eve, the celebration begins to take shape in the halls of Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. Tables and chairs are set up, the venue is decorated, the kitchen is prepped, gift bags are packed, and the tables are laid.

On Christmas Eve, the candles on the Christmas tree are lit and the doors open – the festivities can begin. Two halls fill with shared celebration, music, and the warmth of Christmas. When leaving, guests take home food and supplies that bring joy even after the holidays.

Each celebration also features a well-known artist. This Christmas, famous pop singer Hanna Pakarinen and a surprise performer will take the stage.

A Lifetime of Work Across Three Generations Recognised

The Hurstinapu's work for those struggling to make ends meet continues into its third generation. Last spring, this unique effort was recognised when the Hursti family received two awards at the Evento Awards gala for event professionals.

Hurstinapu traditional Christmas Celebration was named the best charity event of the year, and Hurstinapu family also received a special award for a lifetime of dedication.

The Power of Partnership and Working Together

The collaboration between the Hurstinapu organisation and Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre has continued since 2015, with familiar partners returning year after year, including Niemi, SOL, Securitas, SVV, and the Finnish Red Cross.

'We are professionals at helping others, but organising a large-scale event requires support. Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre and its partners provide the framework in which every guest feels valued,' says Sini Hursti, Executive Director of Hurstinapu.

The magic of Christmas comes from working together – rarely is this more true than at Hurstinapu Christmas Celebration.

We all have the opportunity to support Hurstinapu’s work.

The organisation is entirely funded by donations, so all help – big or small – is welcome! If you would like to contribute, you can find instructions here: https://hurstinapu.fi/lahjoitukset/
