MP MOTORCYCLE SHOW HAD BIKERS ON THE MOVE
The MP Motorcycle Show attracted a staggering 30,000 plus bikers to Messukeskus on Saturday, 1 February, and the total number of show visitors climbed to over 55,000. This year, new bikes included about a dozen electric motorcycles and scooters. Interest in motorcycling seems to be on the rise as this convenient way of getting around gains popularity. The MP 20 Motorcycle Show was held on 31 January–2 February at Messukeskus Helsinki.
Messukeskus organised the MP Motorcycle Show for the 15th time commissioned by the Motorcycles section of the Association of Finnish Technical Traders. More than 55,000 bikers visited the show during the three days. The number of visitors is not comparable to that of last year, as the gaming event Assembly was then organised at the same time with the MP Motorcycle Show and the gaming event’s participants could visit the show free of charge. Comparing only those who bought a ticket or were invited to the MP 20 Motorcycle Show, the number of bikers visiting the event increased by 6%.
Motorcycles section chairman Mikko Summa from Harley-Davidson says that importers are pleased with the event and motorcycle sales. “Sales have been even better than last year. I believe that motorcycling will become an even more popular way of getting around in the coming years with the rise in local tourism. It easier to move around on a bike in traffic jams and the emissions of motorcycling are on average lower than when driving a car. The MP Motorcycle Show visitors were very interested in the electric motorcycle presented at our stand. I believe that we will see a lot more electric motorcycles next year.”
Satisfied bikers at the show
According to a visitor survey conducted by Kantar, visitors were once again very satisfied with the event (95%), and 93% of them reported that they would be coming to the MP Motorcycle Show next year as well. The show is a strongly nationwide event. 35% of the visitors came from the Helsinki metropolitan area. The largest motorcycle event in Northern Europe is also of interest to bikers from neighbouring countries, with a group of more than 600 motorcyclists from Sweden coming to the show, for example. Visitors came to the show to see new motorcycles, mopeds and scooters. 18% of the visitor survey respondents were considering purchasing a new ride within a year. Kantar interviewed 200 visitors during the show.

This is the second time that MP Stars drivers, who will receive support from the motorcycle industry for their next racing season, were chosen by lot at the MP Motorcycle Show. This year, the MP Motorcycle Show featured for the first time a prize draw for unique charity bike built by motorcycle builder Janne Juntunen. The charitable cause was a young people’s motor vehicle workshop through the association Nuori Kirkko ry. The draw included those who had bought a charity ticket in advance and those who bought a raffle ticket at the show. The winning ticket was number 2816 and it was sold at the MP Motorcycle Show. The owner of the winning ticket now has two months to claim the prize. The winner can contact asiakaspalvelu@messukeskus.com.
