Iron deficiency is a growing topic among women – Ferrivia has already helped more than 1,000 women find support
Iron deficiency and low ferritin levels are widely discussed among women. Fatigue, brain fog, reduced physical performance and other symptoms associated with iron deficiency are leading more and more women to investigate their iron levels.
Finnish women’s health startup Ferrivia is addressing a problem it sees as particularly significant: getting the right support for iron deficiency is still highly fragmented. A laboratory test may only be the first step. After that, women need to understand how to improve their iron levels, find a suitable iron supplement and know what to do if their levels do not improve despite supplementation.
Ferrivia launched its service in early 2026. Since then, the company has already helped more than 1,000 women. Laboratory testing through Ferrivia is currently available in eight cities across Finland, with the network now expanding to new locations.
From testing to treatment
Ferrivia’s goal is to build a clear care pathway for iron deficiency, so that customers do not have to search for each part of their care separately.
Through Ferrivia, customers can access laboratory testing, personalized guidance, iron supplements, medical services and, when needed, iron infusions. Iron levels can be monitored over time, while customers receive support in identifying the right next steps for their individual situation.
Ferrivia’s founder, nutrition scientist Mari Lahti, MSc, also knows the problem from personal experience.
”There is a lot of discussion around iron deficiency, but many women are still left wondering what they should actually do next. Knowing your ferritin level alone does not solve the problem. We wanted to build a service that helps people move forward from testing and provides support throughout the entire journey,” says Lahti.
Ferrivia’s experience with more than a thousand customers has also highlighted how different individual situations can be. For some, finding the right iron supplement is enough. For others, iron supplements cause gastrointestinal symptoms or ferritin levels fail to improve despite supplementation. Some need a medical evaluation and potentially intravenous iron treatment.
Ferrivia is expanding across Finland
Ferrivia currently provides access to laboratory services in eight cities across Finland, and the company is now expanding its network to new locations.
In the longer term, Ferrivia aims to apply the same service model to other areas of women’s health.
”Iron deficiency is the first problem we want to solve exceptionally well. At the same time, we are building a model where women do not have to piece together laboratory testing, products, experts and healthcare services from multiple different providers themselves,” says Lahti.

Ferrivia is returning to the I love me event in Helsinki. Visitors can get their ferritin level tested for €30 without an appointment and receive their result quickly on-site.
Ferrivia’s experts will be available throughout the event to discuss iron deficiency, iron levels, nutrition, iron supplements and different options for improving iron levels.
”Last year, we attended I love me at the very beginning of Ferrivia’s journey. This year, we are returning with the experience of helping more than a thousand customers. We have learned an enormous amount about where women need support and what is still missing from the current care pathway,” says Lahti.
