LAB Biofine to showcase its offerings at the Pulp & Beyond 2026 trade fair – moving toward next-generation biomaterial solutions with a new pilot plant

In mid-April, LAB Biofine will participate in the Pulp & Beyond 2026 trade fair in Helsinki to showcase its pilot plant for biomaterials, currently under construction on the Lappeenranta campus, as well as new collaboration opportunities for industry players. LAB Biofine’s innovation and development environment strengthens the international and experimental higher education community formed by LUT Universities, LUT University, and LAB University of Applied Sciences.

Pulp & Beyond is Northern Europe’s leading forum for the forest-based bioeconomy, bringing together the industry’s latest innovations, products, services, and technologies, as well as a wide range of bioeconomy and circular economy experts from around the world. The event offers a comprehensive overview of the latest trends, networking opportunities, and business prospects within the forest-based bioeconomy ecosystem.

On Wednesday, April 15, at the Speakers’ Corner stage, LAB Biofine Project Manager Teemu Piesanen will present opportunities related to biomaterial piloting and avenues for collaboration.

“LAB Biofine is currently developing a flexible pilot plant for the processing of biomaterials, with a particular focus on extraction-based methods. The pilot plant will begin operations in 2027 and will provide versatile and neutral environment for companies and research organizations to conduct experiments and develop new types of biomaterial solutions,” Piesanen explains, adding:

“We are building a platform that enables new applications for biomaterials and collaboration between companies. We are now looking for partners for both piloting and our growing network of bioeconomy experts.”

Visitors to the Pulp & Beyond trade fair can learn about LAB Biofine’s operations at booth 4D11, discuss potential pilot projects, and see how LAB Biofine is advancing future biomaterial solutions through its pilot plant and evolving R&D network.
