Light Cognitive´s award-winning light installation Infinity captures the beauty of nature

A Finnish lighting studio is presenting an award-winning light installation at Habitare. Light Cognitive’s light installation Infinity won the European Cultural Centre’s Design Award 2023 in Venice.

The award-winning installation will make its Finnish debut at Habitare. As a Finland-based company with primarily international projects, they are thrilled to showcase their work in their home country.

Light Cognitive is a Finnish innovation, created to overcome darkness. When founder Sami Salomaa, moved back to Finland after decades abroad, he found Helsinki’s long winters tough to handle. Rather than suffer in the dark, he got to work finding a way to enjoy the benefits of beautiful light and clear skies all year round.

Light Cognitive, a leading lighting innovator, was honored with the ECC Award in the Design category for their outstanding project, Infinity, exhibited at Palazzo Bembo, Venice, during the sixth edition of the Time Space Existence biennial architecture exhibition.

The jury comprised Christele Harrouk, Editor at ArchDaily, Renato Turri, CEO and Partner at World-Architects, and Ursula Schwitalla, Art Historian, Curator, and co-founder of the DIVIA Awards.

Christele Harrouk expressed admiration for Light Cognitive’s winning project, stating, ”Light Cognitive’s installation truly transforms space and recreates a natural landscape using light.”

Infinity,” a light installation that simulates natural light using a mix of LEDs and a patented lighting technology. The large work, sized 10 m2, resembles an expansive view of the horizon.

The award ceremony took place on the 26th of November 2023 during the Closing Event of the sixth edition of the biennial architecture exhibition, Time Space Existence, hosted by the European Cultural Centre. The exhibition, held at Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora, and Giardini della Marinaressa in Venice, Italy, showcased 217 projects from international architects, designers, artists, academics, and photographers representing over 52 countries.

Light Cognitive is a Finnish award-winning lighting design company behind the most realistic natural light solution ever made. Using a patented light technology that emulates nature’s dawn-to-dusk cycle, these virtual skylights and light landscapes gradually change in color and intensity to mimic the sky’s hues, effectively bringing the daylight experience indoors. As a result, people can enjoy the benefits of natural light, such as improved sleep, productivity and enhanced well-being, no matter the place, time of day or year.

”We are thrilled to be part of the Habitare fair with this work, inspired by natural light. In Finland we have a very strong relationship with nature. Finns feel that nature provides them with intangible well-being.”, says Anne Salomaa, marketing director of Light Cognitive. ”Infinity” acts as an expression of a calm, clear sky – a breathing space, a source of light and optimism.”
