Fibenol brings plastic-free fibre packaging to life at Pulp & Beyond 2026

At Pulp & Beyond 2026, Fibenol will present fibre-based packaging solutions designed to replace plastic-coated materials in food service applications.

At booth 5C15, visitors can explore and test real packaging samples, including burger boxes and buckets made with Woodcell™ crystalline cellulose. These solutions are not just prototypes but working materials developed to meet both performance and recyclability requirements.

Woodcell™ is a cellulose-based material produced from wood residues using Fibenol’s Sunburst® technology. It functions as a barrier within the fibre structure itself, removing the need for fossil-based plastic coatings while maintaining resistance to grease, moisture, and air.

The showcased packaging demonstrates a fibre-on-fibre approach, where the barrier integrates directly into the material. This enables monomaterial packaging that remains compatible with existing paper recycling systems.

In addition to coated board applications, Fibenol will also present thermoformed fibre solutions such as trays. These products benefit from improved strength and reduced weight, while lowering reliance on fossil-based materials.

“Packaging needs to perform, but it also needs to fit into real recycling systems. Our focus is on materials that do both,” said Peep Pitk, Fibenol CDO.

The solutions are developed in collaboration with industry partners and target high-demand food service applications where performance has traditionally required plastic coatings.

Fibenol invites journalists and industry stakeholders to visit booth 5C15 to see and test the materials firsthand.
