WWF Finland, the responsibility partner of Vene 26 Båt, works to stop nature loss
Northern Europe’s largest boating event, Vene Båt, annually highlights responsibility and the valuable work done to protect the environment—especially seas and inland waters. Next February, the boat show will particularly showcase the work and goals of the event’s partner, WWF Finland, related to these themes. The Helsinki International Boat Show, Vene 26 Båt, will be held on 6–15 February 2026 at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre.
Each year, the boat show provides visibility to one responsibility partner, and for the first time this partner is WWF Finland. The goal is to support Finnish business life and to contribute actively to responsible operations.
Founded in 1972, WWF Finland addresses the world’s most serious environmental challenges by inspiring people to join the movement for our environment and well-being, and by convincing decision-makers and companies of the necessity and potential of change. Over the past five decades, WWF has achieved significant results. The organisation has, among other things, protected endangered species and habitats, supported scientific research, and influenced decision-making, companies, and consumer behaviour.
“We are delighted that WWF Finland is participating in the boat show to share information about its activities and to inspire people to help drive environmental change. WWF brings a broad perspective to protecting the environment and nature. Boaters and anglers value the work being done for the environment, and as an industry player, we want to support this valuable work by WWF, which ensures that we can continue to enjoy our waters in the future. Together we can achieve the best results, and everyone can influence the state of the environment through their choices,” says Jussi Kivikari, Business Manager in charge of Vene 26 Båt.
Saimaa ringed seals, the Baltic Sea, fishing, dam removal and oil spill response
At the boat show, WWF will highlight a wide range of topics relevant also to boaters, such as the Baltic Sea, the protection of endangered fish species, Saimaa ringed seals, and oil spill response. These themes will appear in various programme areas of the event—especially in the Sailing Harbour and the fishing area. WWF’s goal is to save the Baltic Sea. The organisation removes migration barriers for endangered fish species, prevents eutrophication of the Baltic Sea by building wetlands that retain nutrients, and influences political decision-making. WWF also trains and maintains volunteer oil spill response teams that are ready to act immediately in the event of an oil incident.
According to WWF, the problems of the Baltic Sea can be solved, but doing so requires long-term cooperation both in Finland and between countries.
“The Vene 26 Båt boat show offers an excellent opportunity to highlight WWF’s diverse work to protect Finland’s nature, waterways and the Baltic Sea. We want to inspire both visitors and exhibitors to join us in this effort, so that everyone can continue to enjoy life on the water also in the future,” says Sanna Laine, Corporate Partnerships Account Manager at WWF Finland.
