50 years of Finnish candle craftsmanship – Puttipaja brings its 50-year story to Habitare
The story of Puttipaja, which began in 1976 in Jyväskylä, will have a new chapter this autumn, when the Finnish candle manufacturer will participate in Habitare from 2 to 6 September 2026. Puttipaja will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the fair and present handmade candles, autumn novelties and the selection for the upcoming Christmas season.
Puttipaja candles have been handmade in Finland since 1976. The company’s production is currently located in Vaajakoski, but over the five decades, Puttipaja’s journey has included several stages and locations. Handcraft, domestic manufacturing and the versatile design of candles have remained at the core of its operations.
Puttipaja’s founder Terttu, who is still involved in the company’s operations and the design of its collections, will bring a particularly interesting encounter to Habitare. The first new product of the anniversary year, the Retro Stripe Candle, is designed by Terttu and inspired by Puttipaja’s 1970s collection. In the autumn, the color scheme of the anniversary year will continue with new shades.
”Fifty years is a long time, but the most important thing about a candle is still the same: it brings warmth and atmosphere to people’s everyday lives and celebrations. It’s great to see how the shapes, colors and uses of candles change over time and how craftsmanship lives alongside them.”
– Puttipaja founder Terttu
Handmade candles are still made in Finland
In the Habitare section, visitors can explore Puttipaja’s wide selection, which combines classic candles, trendy colors and shapes, and seasonal products. The range includes, among other things, through-dyed and striped table candles, crown candles, shaped candles, sphere candles, surface-dyed and metallic candles and scented candles. In addition, Puttipaja produces candles made from soy wax and olive oil.
”At Habitare, we want to show how versatile Finnish candle craftsmanship can be. For us, a candle is not just a useful object, but part of the interior, table settings, parties and gifts – and above all, the atmosphere.”
The 50th anniversary year is also reflected in the products and the appearance of the stand at the fair. Puttipaja’s goal is to celebrate its long history without just looking back – it also includes new colors, shapes and ideas for the coming seasons.
