Award-winning new Finnish brand MO6 brings the world’s most carbon-storing interior tiles to Habitare

Launched in May 2026, premium interior design brand MO6 will present itself widely to the public for the first time at the Habitare fair in September. The carbon tiles, based on an innovation from Finnish materials technology company Elementic, bind an exceptional amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The newly launched innovation was just awarded one of the design world’s most prestigious accolades, the Red Dot Best of the Best.

MO6’s first products are wall tiles suitable for dry indoor spaces in both homes and public spaces. In the future, the range will expand to cover additional applications. The brand’s products have received a very promising reception on both domestic and international markets.

From a forest industry byproduct to a world-class carbon sink

Behind the MO6 brand is Finnish materials technology company Elementic, whose factory and product development are located in Lempäälä, in Finland. The company’s patented manufacturing process makes use of a byproduct of pulp production — lignin — which is refined into a solid building material that stores more atmospheric carbon than any other in the world.

The material is exceptionally ecological: one kilogram of MO6 material stores approximately 2.4 kilograms of atmospheric carbon dioxide, considerably more than, for example, traditional wood. At the same time, the product responds to several international megatrends by raising the refining value of a forest industry byproduct.

  • Fully bio-based and plastic-free: safe for indoor air quality and the environment.
  • Light yet durable: an excellent building material that is also fire-safe.
  • Eternal lifecycle: the material does not decay, is easy to recycle, and keeps atmospheric carbon stored within the product for potentially thousands of years.

Rare Red Dot win confirms international potential

Although MO6 targets the premium market and was only recently launched, international interest has already been sparked. As proof of this, MO6’s interior tiles were recently awarded the highest, rare Best of the Best distinction in the sustainability category of the international Red Dot Awards competition. The award is given to fewer than one percent of the more than 10,000 products submitted to the competition. In Finland, only industrial giants such as Fiskars, Valtra, and Ponsse have previously won the equivalent recognition, and internationally the same category includes brands such as Sony, Porsche, and Lamborghini.

”It is a great honor that we received the highest possible award and a full 100/100 points from a respected international jury. It is truly rare for such a young company to receive this award, but the jury clearly saw us as a pioneer in both design and materials,” says MO6’s General Manager Johanna Normiala.

The name MO6 reflects the brand’s design philosophy

MO6 combines a pared-down design language with the texture of an innovative material. The brand’s name conceals its deepest essence:

  • MO refers to the word MONO, meaning the seamless, single-piece composition of the carbon products. The letter M is also short for ”Material”, which is at the heart of the design philosophy: a pared-down design language brings the unique carbon material itself, and its texture, to the fore.
  • 6 is the atomic number of carbon — the DNA of the products.

MO6 currently sells its products directly to professionals, but the distribution network is intended to expand in the future.
