Invented and designed by fashion designer sisters Maikku and Hammi Mettinen, who once again succeeded in creating something completely new. This family company is committed to local production.
Their bestseller, the EARBIT Water earring, is made from recycled acrylic – transparent yet reflecting all colors of the spectrum. ”We constantly receive feedback from customers being admiringly stopped on the street by people asking about their earrings, saying they’ve never seen anything like it,” share the designers.
The idea was born in 2021 when Maikku Mettinen, one of the designers, walked into the studio with a vision: she wanted to have a weightless earring that would sit higher on the center of the ear, lifting the look instead of pulling it down.
”Everything starts from what we ourselves want to wear,” Maikku explains.
”After over 50 prototypes and extensive material testing, we perfected the design to ensure comfort, usability, and secure fit. Through this meticulous development process, we solved the age-old problem of heavy earrings stretching the earlobe,” Hammi continues.
”These are not just earrings, it’s a brand-new way to use and wear earrings. As fashion designers, we immediately created a complete collection that allows everyone to freely express their individual style,” they continue.
In 2023, EARBIT was founded and Mila, Maikku’s daughter and Hammi’s goddaughter, joined the team.
”I joined this venture purely out of admiration and pride. EARBIT is something innovative that deserves recognition. When people ask why I didn’t follow the family path into design, I explain that I never needed to – everything I could dream of was already being created around me – just like EARBITs now. My only venture into fashion design was at age four, when I created a dress by lying on pattern paper and tracing my outline. I then cut out the pattern, used it to cut the fabric, and sewed the dress with a serger. While I loved wearing it, that remained my first and last design – my passion lies in helping my mom and aunt to build the EARBIT brand.” -Mila

It’s been fascinating to witness how people’s eyes light up when they try on EARBITs at events and retailers – that’s the moment they truly understand the weightlessness and comfort. EARBITs are piercing free and being able to try the samples before purchase has been crucial, as the experience of wearing them is something words alone can’t describe.”
